Healthy Knees Tips # 15.

Working on a Treadmill with Knee Pain.

Q. I am forty years old and have joined the gym recently. My instructor has asked me to run on a treadmill with 10* of incline. I can run at 6 km/h comfortably on a flat platform but with incline, it gives me pain in front of the knees. Gym Instructors says it is normal. Is it??

A. No, it is not normal. If you are having pain while running on an incline than your knee cap is not fit to take the load. Either you have to build up the quadriceps gradually and try again ‘or’ you might need to get your knees examined by your knee surgeon to rule out any underlying pathology. Don’t try to win over the pain, it may backfire!!
